Things to do in Bangor

If you’re visiting Bangor with the kids in tow, treat them to a day out at GreenWood Forest Park. This family activity centre provides hours of entertainment, from tunnels and mazes to magic shows and craft workshops. More adventurous families should visit Zip World Penrhyn Quarry, where you can fly over 150 metres above a slate quarry on a zip-line.

Culture vultures will love the artwork and historical exhibits on display at STORIEL. Save time for morning tea or lunch at the on-site coffee shop, which serves delicious scones, quiche and tea. Afterwards, duck over to Bangor Cathedral, which showcases historic Gothic architecture and a “Biblical Garden” filled with every plant mentioned in the bible.

Those interested in trains should visit the Penrhyn Castle Railway Museum, home to old-world railway equipment such as 19th-century locomotives. If you prefer being close to the water, stroll along the Grade II-listed Garth Pier, which is over 450 metres long and is often lined with local fishermen.

Nature lovers will enjoy a hike to Aber Falls, which is about 36 metres high and has an icy-cold plunge pool. Hikers might also spot several Bronze Age relics along their walk, such as a smithy and multiple stones. For something less physical, wander through the manicured gardens at Treborth Botanic Garden.
